Hi,
Its a nice kit - the most correction you'll need to do is around the boot lid at the top. Also, with the engine, mount the engine block in the chassis then put in the cylinder heads with the exhaust manifolds already attached - much easier than trying to do it the way suggested in the instructions.
You haven't got much time so I hope you're successful in getting it completed before Telford!
Cheers,

Dropping the front suspension is a quick job too and it really helps with "the look".

Educate me, just how do you do it?
No seriously remember I'm new to this stuff.

Cheers, Yeah I saw the misalignment at the base of the rear of the roof and I've started putting it right. The engine notes are very helpful thank you. I've an MCG etched grill set on the way and I'm modelling the project on the 32 highboy drophead on the over of the September issue of Custom Car magazine. So lots of shades of gloss black and aluminium, not much chrome. THC

Hi,
The mcg etched grille sits in the Replicas and Minatures of Maryland resin grille shell very nicely - if you haven't got one I can send you the details. If you're worried about getting one in time I have some spare and could post one to you (at great cost of course!!!).
Cheers,

So from that do I surmise that there is an issue with the kit one?
Do I NEED to change it?

Re the front axle, if I remember correctly there is an oblong tab on top of the front suspension spring that slots into the front cross member. To drop the front end, make a cut vertically into the spring at either side of the tab, the longer the cut, the lower the front end will go. Then make horizontal cuts in towards the vertical cuts so they meet at a nice right angle on either side.
Now pop the spring into the frame and see how much of the tab protrudes out the top, mark the excess and chop it off. You've just lowered the front end and, depending on whether you're using fenders or not, you might also need to tweak the shock mounts to match. Unless you've gone for a real nose in the weeds look, the radius rod mounts should be fine.
Moral, cut off a small bit at a time!

I'll mess with that tonight.

Hi,
I've never tried the photoetched grille in the kit grille shell but don't see any reason why it shouldn't work.
Get some pics up so we can see the progress sometime!

Yeah, we need pics! Gonna wire my engine next. Like Harley says, dropping the front end is a doddle. I believe you can also drop the rear a little bit by cutting down the air ride bags on the rear axle, or just jack up the rear for a proper rake .

This is an image taken from the Custom Car magazine I'm referring back too. Ok so mine will be a 3 window coupe and will run on mag alloys (black) but you get the idea. THC

Jim you were spot on about the top of the boot area what a pig to tidy up that was. Got some grey primer on it about 12.30 last night.
I'll see what else needs doing tonight.
Pictures tonight I promise.

Hi,
Once that area around the top of the boot is sorted the rest of the parts preparation is pretty smooth sailing.
If you're planning to build the model with fenders you'll find it'll fit better if you don't put the rear wheel wells in the body as suggested in the instructions. In later varients of the kit they've obviously realised this and only tell you to use the wheel wells if building a highboy.
Overall, even though its been around a while now its a great kit and you can see why it was voted as one of the best kits of the millenium by Scale Auto Magazine.
Cheers,

I've the Monogram boxing which seems to be a pared down issue without some of the spares and custom bits.
The instructions are labelled as Revell though which seems odd they normally are at pains to seperate the two brands.
The instructions do stipulate the well liners as being for the highboy only.
Last night I stripped all the chrome and sorted things like the bodywork. The front suspension is modified in accordance with Harley's suggestion and together ready to paint tonight.
I expect to have 90% of it done by the end of next week, just waiting on the MCG Grill set to land.
