And the question we all want answered, what's the best chassis donor?

the revell or esci escort as always seems to fit well, I think looking at demand I may well do a generic british ford chassis, that will fit this, the mk1 Escort & the MK2 rs2000 I will be doing soon

I must say I look at your kits and think 'I'd love that' then look at the availability and price of a Revell Escort and the combined price just isn't justifiable for me, especially as it's mainly a floorpan, seats and dash I would need. I have 2 KFS truck transkits which were around £65 each but I need to spend another £30 on a Volvo donor kit which not only makes it expensive but it's not totally accurate and being a Yorkshireman, I hate to think I'll be wasting 2 truck cabs ;D ;D Must have a look at Huddersfield - I presume you will have one there?

To be fair, the escort is the best fit, many chassis can be adapted to fit by cutting & shutting, but it would not be fair to recomend a lindberg 1964 dodge chassis as a donor as its not a straight fit, but thats what I am using on my build, as I want a street sleeper rather than a stocker. Any more experienced model builder can find a chassis to fit any body without much effort, but it would not be fair to just generalise for fear of putting off someone just starting out. I tend to just offer bodyshells as that is the most importan part of any build, it costs almost as much to make a mould for a chassis as it does a body, so the price goes up, when you look at the ones Scalekraft used to do, many of the resin kits were $200 plus, as you had the body, chassis, wheels, seats etc, not everyone wants that, if I get asked enough I could do a general chassis that fits most of my bodyshells, but thus far probably 70 plus sold & only the odd mention of a chassis, I sell the wheels for some bodies as a seperate item & not many people even bother with them, its horses for courses I guess, you can't please all of the people all of the time, I mostly make subjects that appeal to me & if I can then sell some to help offset my hobby cost then so much the better, its all good fun & everyone gets out of the hobby what they want but it may not be the oppinion of others. Yes I will be at Huddersfield, we are all looking forward to the first real show of the year, I hope everyone brings something to put on the table to enhance the display

Hopefully Revell will release the mk2 Escort again, then Harleys mate can finish the mk2 RS2000 he was working on.

Chassis on a budget, why noy buy a 1/24 diecast car, they are cheap & easy to get, typically £5 in postage, you can use the chassis as is or adapt, I just got an affa for less than a fiver & its the right width & wheelbase for the Zodiac, could be a great move if your on a budget

For what it's worth I am inclined to agree with Voyager, when I read SAE and see what kits are 'sacrificed' for some of the builds they do it makes me cringe. Don't get me wrong, i'm not tight just careful! I reckon they must end up with parts boxes like the Beckhams' hand luggage. Wouldn't mind getting my hands on those... the parts boxes that is...

Sorry Andy, I realise adding a chassis and stuff would add to the cost and I am presuming you are a one man band and your work is great, fantastic to see some 'ordinary' British classics for a change. The diecast suggestion has got me thinking, TK Maxx do some 1/24th stuff pretty cheaply but I have a 69 Mustang sitting on a shelf in the hobby room doing nothing......
Actually, I have just bought the 40th Anniversary edition of Custom Car magazine with a feature on the restoration of Henry Hirise, always loved that car. I need a '57 Chevy for Roarin' Rat as well though ;D

Funny you should mention that! I have a 1/24 Henry Hirise, it too needs restoring, I will do it when the real one is finished! Hope he gets it running this summer, maybe mine can see the nationals then. Attachments:

Thought you were local? We had people from Scotland & the south coast arrive, they are notorious for being scared of the snow, it did look bad at 7.30 but by 10.30 it was quite busy, I was busier than last year which I was greatful for, but surprised, it was I am told the 17th year & the first it snowed, but the show must go on as they say & indeed it did.
