OK, so here's me making some sort of commitment...
Some time ago I acquired a job lot of stuff for not much and in amongst it was, yes, a Monogram 1/8 '32. It was in a bit of sorry state but not beyond redemption.
I stripped it back to component parts and it has laid dormant since but, having spoken to Mr Whelan earlier in the year I have decided to take the plunge and attempt to get it to Telford!
SO, here goes, Engine stripped back@
and now the the new acquisition, the TDR 3D printed '32 IRS:
yes those are individual brake pads:
and some idea as to how it builds up:
So far I've sanded most of the components as the printing process does leave ridges on the parts, more noticeable on the larger parts such as the frame cross member. The surface is otherwise very coarse and does need sanding back. Next step will be a coat of Mr Surfacer to see just how bad it is, but I thought I'd show you what they look like "nude".
Yes the springs are printed, and they flex realistically! You may be able to see that I have yet to be brave enough to sand back the springs...
The drive shafts and the joints at either end have had aluminium tube inserted into the holes as instructed (I made the holes too big but that will teach me). I've also acquired some RB Motion bolt heads to dress it all up.
The block will also feature a different intake system, but more on that once the frame is further progressed.
Some dry running suggested that the fuel tank will foul the diff, so I've had a surf and there seems to be a standard of the tank fitting ON the rails rather than between them as depicted in the kit. This will allow me to raise the tank and miss the diff. So I've cut off the locating lugs and filled the gap
and again a dry run:
You'll have noticed the 50p piece for some sort of scale comparison ;D
More later and enjoy in the mean time
Cheers
Rich
