After my most recent paint disaster (basically caused by trying to use inks as paint), I've decided to get a grip and invest in a "proper" paint system i.e. make sure all the constituent bits (basecoat, effects, top coat etc) come from the same manufacturer - I've got a life time's supply of Halford's primer and clear stashed away so I'm essentially looking at the middle bit of the process.
Anyone got any preferred manufacturers they would swear by?

Hi,
I'd go with Zero Paints with their 2-pack clear - has worked really well for me since I switched. If you have a disaster Fairy Power Spray will fetch it off quite well. Zero say that Halfords primer and clear work with their paints but I've had problems with Halfords clear cracking (over their own paints as well).
Cheers,

Thanks Jim, does anyone other than Hiroboy distribute Zero paints in the UK?
Also, what do you use for air brush clean up?

Hiroboy actually produces the paint so nobody else supplies it - they also make an airbrush cleaner as well that does a really good job. Sometimes I use Halfords cellouse thinners and then finish off with the Zero airbrush cleaner to save some money.
If you haven't looked at my '32 pro street pickup post on this board have a look - the last picture shows the parts sprayed up in Zero paints.
Cheers,

I too can really recommend Zero paints. Never had an issue with them.
I also use 2 pack clear but I buy it at an automotive suppliers. I buy 1 litre of clear and .5 litre of activator for £23.00. Mixed in that ratio plus 40% cellulose thinners.
The larger quantity activator will probably go off before you can use it all. To prevent this, go to somewhere like Machine Mart and buy a cylinder of PURE Argon gas plus a regulator. I think I paid about £20 for the pair.
Once you open the activator, the contact with the atmosphere starts to make it go hard. A five second burst of the heavier than air Argon Gas prevents this. I'm still using the same can I bought nine months ago.
