Here, at last, are some pics from the IPMS show at Telford. We had a great turn out of models, with some real quality on display. First off, here are some pics from the Competition area. Jim's highly detailed '32 roadster won Silver this year. This is the Gold winning Corvette dragster.

Thanks for those, nice to see what I missed. Some nice builds there, that winning 'vette may be a well built model but IMHO what an ugly version of a beautiful car! Horrid wheels and stickers seemingly randomly placed. Sorry if it belongs to someone on here but to me it just doesn't work. However your AWB cars, now thaere are some good looking dragsters!!

I have to put my head above the parapet as well on this one, it's a nicely built kit but something about the drag chute just doesn't say Gold Medal to me?

Hi,
I'd have to agree about the chute - looks like its been put on upside down to me.
I've sent an e-mail to the competition secretary to get some feedback from the judges; I've gotten 3 silvers now so I am obviously not quite there yet in some aspect of my building.
Cheers,
Jim

Be interested to know the reults of any reply you get Jim. I don't mean to deride anyone for building a model as they like it, however as soon as you enter it for a competition, I believe you must accept constructive criticism and I would love to know the criteria that won on. It must have been on 'build quality' as in, paint finish, fit of parts etc (although I can't see from the photos how that would put it ahead of Jim's roadster or some of the others pictured. It can't be for it's depiction as a realistic Corvette dragster - besides the odd 'chute the two tanks on the front would be pointless - more plumbing etc than needed - a real racer would just use a tank the size needed for runs (like Dav's Nova above), it's running 3 bolt wheels - never seen a 'vette with three bolts, no sign of a roll cage (if it needs a 'chute!) etc. So as a model it may be well built, as a dragster it probably wouldn't pass scrutineering!

I agree with the comments about the Vette, it is nicely built but I can't think of an era and/ or class it would be allowed to race in.
There again, we're all familiar with IPMS "judging" outside the military and aircraft classes. I've got a Bike Class silver from ten years ago when the gold went to a die cast that had been repainted...
I can't see anything changing significantly unless we can make a case to the IPMS to suggest that having judges who really know their stuff (guess who that might be?) would attract more entries, make the show better, get more members into the IPMS etc. They have put a '32 on the front cover of the magazine so maybe there is a move towards giving cars the same treatment as planes, tanks etc.
